Vilkaviskis Primary School Welcomed the Comenius partners from Europe/Lithuania
The last week of April the community of Vilkaviskis Primary school hosted forty five
people-teachers, students and their parents from five European countries-Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland and Turkey.
Vilkaviskis Primary school is participating in Comenius Multilateral Partnership Project „Join Hands and hug Europe“. The multilateral learner-centred intercultural Project aims at providing a platform for close cooperation between six European primary schools- their pupils, teachers and other education staff in order to improve the school climate and create a safer, more tolerant and inclusive school by reducing violence and bullying and ensuring that every child feels accepted and develops its potential to the full.
Seventeen students from European countries were hosted by the families of Vilkaviskis Primary School students‘. While waiting for the young guests the parents said that hosting a kid from different culture and background is a kind of a challenge to the whole family.
When the stay was over, one of the mums Gileta Naujokiene who hosted a Polish girl Julija shared her impressions and gained experience. Her two kids-school chidren perceived the importance of ability to communicate in foreign language and understood huge perspectives that could await in the future if the skills of foreign language will be higher than average. Mrs Gileta noticed that during the stay they communicated in Russian, Polish, English and...the language of gestures. The third grade student-her son-made sure that the speaking English during the English lessons and communicating in English in a real life are two absolutely different things. During the stay the whole family were pleasantly surprised when Julija pronounced Lithuanian words „Labas rytas“(good morning), and „laba diena“ (good afternoon).
The Project „Join hands and hug Europe“ will last till September 2013. The delegation of nine people-five teachers and four students are leaving for Zagreb on the 21st of May. More students will be able to visit countries neighbours-Poland and Czech Republic next school year.

Religion in My Life: Islam / Turkiye
I’m Berke. My religion is Islam. Islam appeared over 1400 years ago in Mecca, Arabia. The followers of Islam are called Muslims and I’m a Muslim boy.
ALLAH
We, Muslims, believed that there is only one god. The name of our god is Allah. We believe in Allah and all the prophets such as Adam , Moses and Jesus.
QURAN
We believe in our holy book Quran. Quran was sent to the Muslims via one of Allah’s messengers Mohammed. He is the final prophet and We, Muslims, believe in him.
SHAHADAH
The basic statement of Islamic faith is “Shahadah” It means that Allah is the only god and that Mohammed is Allah’s prophet. A Muslim believes in this statement with his whole heart.
EZAN & SALAH
Ezan is a chant that is used to call Muslims to salah. Muslims perform salah five times each day. Allah ordered Muslims to pray five times a day.
MOSQUE
The sacred place of we , Muslims , is Mosque. A mosque is the worship place of a Muslim. It has one or more minarets. A minaret is a tall thin tower. A muezzin stands at the top of the tower and calls Muslim prayer.PRAY
KAABA
The holliest place for Muslims is The Kaaba. It is a cube building in Mecca . Allah told the Prophet Mohammed that he should use the Kaaba to do his worship.Muslims must go to Hajj at least once in their life if they can afford.
ZAKAT
In the eyes of God all people are equal in race, gender, poor or richness and one of the ways to keep that equality is giving ZAKAT for poor people. We, Muslims, give ZAKAT for people to help them . Zakat can be given as money or food. A rich Muslim has to pay to benefit the poor and the needy each year.
RAMADAN
Ramadan is one of the most important event in a Muslim's life. We, Muslims, fast during Ramadan. It lasts almost 30 days. We don’t eat or drink anything from dawn to night. After sunset , with the evening salah , we start to eat a big dinner with our family.
EUD UL -FITR
NOAH'S PUDDING DAY : ASHURE DAY
Ashure is a traditional Turkish dessert cooking in the Ashure month. It symbolizes the true friendship and unity among God’s people. In this day, our mums prepare the huge amount of ashure and share with families , friends and neighbours by serving in the small bowls.
We , Muslims believe that the prophet Noah and his family mixed all the storage and cooked pudding after the great flood to save themselves from starving. Now , Noah’s pudding is called ashure.
THE BIRTHDAY OF
THE PROPETH MOHAMMED
THE PROPETH MOHAMMED
We , Muslims celebrate the birthday of the prophet Mohammed on 20 th April. We believe that our prophet Mohammed smells like a rose. So giving the rose is a custom to greet and hug all people. The prophet Mohammed says “Your smiling in your brother’s face is charity.

Hallelujah
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
